PCB material selection is largely driven by functional requirements, but is also subject to manufacturer and manufacturing process qualifications.

Printed Board Assemblies

Surface Mount Technology EEE components are required to be mounted to the PCB by a qualified supplier with a verified soldering process for each selected component package or shape. The SMT verification for packages, shapes and PCB combinations which do not have existing qualified process will be a major cost and schedule driver for the Project.

DB Assurance can provide the following services:

  • Identify qualified PCB manufacturers for the PCB materials / technologies selected for new designs
  • Manage Project qualification for deviations from qualified PCB manufacturer PID using RFA process in accordance with ECSS-Q-ST-70-60C.
  • Identify SMT verification status for selected EEE Parts & PCB materials in conjunction with the selected PBA supplier.
  • Manage new SMT verifications in close contact with selected PBA supplier and ESA to the requirements of ECSS-Q-ST-70-38C Rev 1
  • Generate Statement of Work for PBA manufacturing service providers.
  • Support Design Engineers in selecting parts in packages which have Space heritage.
  • Identify any high risks or cost drivers when it is proposed to use PCBs or Parts not meeting qualification requirements.
